Single-neuron analysis of aging-associated changes in learning reveals impairments in transcriptional plasticity.

The molecular mechanisms underlying age-related declines in learning and long-term memory are still not fully understood. To address this gap, our study focused on investigating the transcriptional landscape of a singularly identified motor neuron L7 in Aplysia, which is pivotal in a specific type of nonassociative learning known as sensitization of the siphon-withdraw reflex. Employing total RNAseq analysis on a single isolated L7 motor neuron after short-term or long-term sensitization (LTS) training of Aplysia at 8, 10, and 12 months (representing mature, late mature, and senescent stages), we uncovered aberrant changes in transcriptional plasticity during the aging process.

Insights into Sickle Cell Disease through the Retinal Microvasculature: Adaptive Optics Scanning Light Ophthalmoscopy Correlates of Clinical OCT Angiography.

Purpose: Clinical OCT angiography (OCTA) of the retinal microvasculature offers a quantitative correlate to systemic disease burden and treatment efficacy in sickle cell disease (SCD). The purpose of this study was to use the higher resolution of adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscopy (AOSLO) to elucidate OCTA features of parafoveal microvascular compromise identified in SCD patients.

Design: Case series of 11 SCD patients and 1 unaffected control.

Early Postpartum Maternal and Newborn Responses to Auditory, Tactile, Visual, Vestibular, and Olfactory Stimuli.

Objective: To compare maternal psychological well-being, newborn behavior, and maternal and newborn salivary oxytocin (OT) and cortisol before and after two maternally administered multisensory behavioral interventions or an attention control group.

TRUE Dads: The impact of a couples-based fatherhood intervention on family relationships, child outcomes, and economic self-sufficiency.

TRUE Dads, a federally funded Responsible Fatherhood intervention, aims to strengthen three of men's key roles in the family: (1) as fathers, building and maintaining positive engagement with their child; (2) as partners, maintaining a positive relationship with their co-parent; and (3) as providers, through fostering employment and economic self-sufficiency. A feature of the program is that low-income fathers and their co-parenting partners participate together in 6 3-hour group workshops, followed by optional participation in an additional 6 3-hour workshops. Fathers in the intervention condition were offered a chance to participate in a 2-week employment program.
