A 71-year-old male patient with a superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder developed high fever and jaundice, accompanied by progressively increasing serum aminotransferase activities, 2 weeks after the fourth local instillation with an attenuated live strain of Mycobacterium bovis [bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG)]. A liver biopsy showed non-caseating granulomatous hepatitis. Cultures for mycobacteria were negative.

Ductal ("endometrioid") adenocarcinoma of the prostate is a rare variant of prostatic carcinoma which may have a different clinical presentation than the more common acinar adenocarcinoma. Ductal adenocarcinoma usually involves the urethra and the large periurethral prostatic ducts with direct spread through the more peripheral ductal system. Centrally located tumours have a much better prognosis than tumours involving the deep prostatic parenchyma.

Non-renal urogenital Wegener's granulomatosis is considered to be rare. Generally it occurs in a setting of concurrent multisystem disease or in patients already diagnosed as having Wegener's granulomatosis. We present a patient with a penile ulceration related to a destructive urethritis, as presentation of a relapse of Wegener's granulomatosis.

Unlabelled: We retrospectively reviewed the files of patients who had undergone a prostatic biopsy between July 1992 and December 1994. A total of 368 biopsies of 340 patients between 36 and 89 years old, could be used. The pathological examination was used to make the diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Glycine was intravenously injected in rabbits and resulted in a dose dependent hyperglycinemia. A dose of 10mmol/kg was sufficient to achieve plasma levels of 10 to 16mM comparable to serum levels in patients at the end of a transurethral prostatectomy. The experiments documented that hyperglycinemia is associated with a significant increase of this substance in tissues outside the plasma compartment.
