Pigmented fungiform papillae of the tongue.

Introduction: Pigmented fungiform papillae of the tongue is a benign condition frequent in dark skin patients. It usually appears in the second or third decade of life, and it has been reported as autosomal dominant inheritance pattern. The diagnosis is clinical, but dermoscopy could be helpful: a classical rose petal pattern is observed.

Assessment of Quality of Life Following Diagnosis in Patients with Cervicofacial Non-melanoma Skin Cancer.

Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is the most common neoplasm. The characteristics of this disease (location in aesthetically sensitive areas, the appearance of successive tumors during follow-up, and high rates of survival) are such that the concept of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is of particular importance. The aim of the present study was to describe and analyses patient quality of life following diagnosis with cervicofacial NMSC.

Factors related to the evolution of quality of life in patients with cervicofacial non-melanoma skin cancer.

Purpose: Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is the most frequent neoplasm today, worldwide. This type of tumour presents low mortality but causes a major psychosocial impact on the patient. Studies have shown that the patient's quality of life (as detected by questionnaire scores in this respect) improves as the care process advances.

The principal cause of skin cancer is sun exposure. In areas with high sun exposure levels, early diagnosis and sun protection education strategies must be developed. Aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of an early skin cancer diagnosis intervention implementing teledermatology.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis: A pathological study of 360 cases with special emphasis on the contribution of immunohistochemistry and polymerase chain reaction to diagnosis.

Background: Traditional methods for the diagnosis of leishmaniasis yield poor sensitivity, which limits its effectiveness in lesions with a low parasite burden.

Methods: Retrospective pathologic study of 360 cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis and analysis of the different diagnostic methods used.

Results: In 93% of the lesions, histopathology showed a dense and diffuse inflammatory infiltrate, consisting of lymphocytes, histiocytes and plasma cells, which occupied the superficial and mid dermis and variably extended to deep dermis and superficial subcutis (standard pattern).
