Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are routinely used to replace cataractous crystalline lenses. Most current models have a biconvex design that reduces optical quality in the periphery since they are optimized only for central vision. Inverted meniscus IOLs are optimized to achieve similar optical performance to phakic eyes in the peripheral retina.

Evaluating the Feasibility and Preliminary Effectiveness of a Multi-Tiered Multimodal Narrative Intervention Program for Preschool Children.

Purpose: The present study aims to evaluate the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of a novel multi-tiered narrative intervention program-the multimodal narrative (MMN) program-in Catalan that was co-created to boost preschool children's narrative and pragmatic skills.

Method: First, we describe here in detail the novel program, which consisted of a set of interventions oriented around the retelling of a narrative in a multimodal fashion, that is, with an abundant use of appropriate gesture and facial expression and careful attention to the pragmatic aspects of communication. We then describe the results of a self-reported feasibility study (Study 1) after this program was trial-implemented by 31 preschool teachers and speech-language therapists in their respective professional contexts.

Effect of exogenous lactoferrin and phosphoglycerate mutase 2 on the cryopreservation of wild ruminant epididymal/ejaculated sperm and testicular tissue.

Spermatozoa collected from the cauda epididymis of wild ruminants are more cryoresistant than are ejaculated spermatozoa. This work examines the effects of lactoferrin (LF) and phosphoglycerate mutase 2 (PGAM2), which are abundant in the epididymal sperm of wild ruminants, as additives in Iberian ibex and mouflon sperm extenders. In addition, LF was added to a vitrification medium to determine whether it also provided protection during the cryopreservation of testicular tissue.
