Cervical septic arthritis can lead to complications such as epidural abscess, which may result in respiratory failure. We present a case of a 78-year-old male with cervical septic arthritis complicated by epidural abscess, leading to severe diaphragm dysfunction. Ultrasound evaluation revealed dysfunction of the left hemidiaphragm and compensatory activation of accessory respiratory muscles.

High-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) has become an indispensable tool in the characterization of organic aerosols (OA) providing information on air quality, health assessment, climate trends, reactions, and source apportionment. Spectra-derived lists of formulas and their relative abundances are used to compare ambient OA from different sources or to monitor secondary OA formation under controlled laboratory conditions in smog chamber experiments. Various techniques are implemented to visualize common and unique features, series of precursors, and products.

We present new satellite-based daily observations of the 3D distribution of aerosols from most common types and origins, both over land and ocean, derived from TROpospheric Ozone Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) measurements. This is done using the so-called AEROS5P (AEROsol Sentinel 5 Precursor) approach which retrieves vertical profiles of aerosol extinction from passive measurements of high-resolution spectral reflectance in the visible and near infrared for cloud-free conditions. Previous work demonstrated the potential of this approach, but it was initially applicable only to biomass burning aerosols with limited spatial coverage over ocean.

Background: Reduced muscle mass upon admission and development of muscle wasting are frequent in critically ill patients, and linked to unfavorable outcomes. Muscle ultrasound is a promising instrument for evaluating muscle mass. We summarized the findings of lower limb muscle ultrasound values and investigated how the muscle ultrasound parameters of the examination or the patient characteristics influence the results.
