Factor Structure of the Affective Style Questionnaire in Flemish Adolescents.

Emotion regulation plays an important role in both healthy and problematic adolescent psychological functioning. Emotion regulation tendencies can be assessed with the Affective Style Questionnaire (ASQ; Hofmann & Kashdan, 2010), but its validity in Dutch speaking adolescents has not been investigated so far. Two methods, namely traditional confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the recently developed exploratory structural equations modeling (ESEM), were compared to examine the dimensional structure of the ASQ in a Flemish adolescent sample ( = 1,601).

The effects of a mindfulness-based intervention on emotional distress, quality of life, and HbA(1c) in outpatients with diabetes (DiaMind): a randomized controlled trial.

Objective: Emotional distress is common in outpatients with diabetes, affecting ∼20-40% of the patients. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of group therapy with Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), relative to usual care, for patients with diabetes with regard to reducing emotional distress and improving health-related quality of life and glycemic control.

Research Design And Methods: In the present randomized controlled trial, 139 outpatients with diabetes (type 1 or type 2) and low levels of emotional well-being were randomized to MBCT (n = 70) or a waiting list group (n = 69).

[Dermatitis or arthritis as a sign of gonorrhoea].

Disseminated gonococcal infection occurs in less than 5% of patients infected with Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The majority of these patients present with arthritis, tenosynovitis, polyarthralgia or dermatitis. In this article we present two patients with disseminated gonococcal infection, each with different symptoms.

[Less need for insulin, a surprising effect of phototherapy in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus].

A 40-year-old woman with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus was treated successfully with phototherapy for a seasonal affective disorder. Following sessions of phototherapy she developed hypoglycaemias and required less insulin. A review of the literature showed that melatonin has an inhibiting effect on insulin sensitivity.

[Effect of gastric banding on pharmacotherapy: not much known].

Following placement of gastric banding, the time that medication remains in the proximal part of the stomach may increase variably. This can lead to problems with oral administration of enteric coated or controlled-release preparations. Problems can be avoided by changing over to another form ofa dministration or sometimes by changing to another active compound.
