Cost-effectiveness of red blood cell transfusion vs. non-intervention in women with acute anaemia after postpartum haemorrhage.

Background: Red blood cell (RBC) transfusion is frequently used to treat women with acute anaemia after postpartum haemorrhage. We aimed to assess the economic consequences of red blood cell transfusion compared to non-intervention in these women.

Methods: A trial-based cost-effectiveness analysis was performed alongside the Well-Being of Obstetric patients on Minimal Blood transfusions (WOMB) trial.

Aims: Primary pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS) is a rare cardiac abnormality that exhibits a high morbidity and mortality rate. The disease is characterized by obstruction of the pulmonary venous blood flow owing to congenital hypoplasia of individual extra-pulmonary veins. We describe a consanguineous Turkish family with four affected siblings with primary PVS in association with prenatal lymphatic abnormalities.

Fixed fetal heart rate pattern after intrauterine accidental decerebration.

A fixed fetal heart rate (FHR) pattern, with a normal frequency without accelerations and decelerations can be observed in early pregnancy during the inactive episodes of the rest-activity cycle, in association with certain drugs administered to the mother and in some cases of anencephaly. In the present case report a fetus is described in which a persistent fixed FHR pattern was indicative of decerebration in utero. The latter occurred after a serious maternal respiratory and cardiovascular collapse.
