Permethrin toxicosis in cats.

A retrospective analysis of all adverse experience reports received by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority's Adverse Experience Reporting Program for veterinary medicines since 1995, showed that permethrin toxicity in cats usually occurred after the owner applied a canine permethrin-containing product, typically a spot-on. Cats are also at risk from grooming or being in direct contact with recently treated dogs. This paper reviews permethrin toxicosis and its treatment in cats, incorporating information from the Australian and selected overseas veterinary pharmacovigilance programs.

Concerns for asthma at pre-placement assessment and health surveillance in platinum refining--a personal approach.

Platinum, a noble metal, is inert in the body and has an important use in medical applications. It is used in autocatalysts to control harmful vehicular emissions and the catalytic effects improve efficiencies of pharmaceutical and petrochemical processes. The refining process involves exposure to halogeno complex salts of platinum which are potent allergens.

The veterinary pharmacovigilance program of the APVMA.

This paper provides an overview of the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority's (APVMA) Adverse Experience Reporting Program for veterinary medicines (AERP Vet). It outlines the history of the AERP Vet and how the program investigates adverse experience reports received from veterinarians, product registrants and members of the public. The benefits to veterinarians of such a program are highlighted and include the ability to trust in the safety, quality and efficacy of the veterinary drugs that they handle and administer daily.
