Introduction: The reconstitution of form and function after maxillofacial tumor resection or traumatic bony defects is a challenge when considering reconstructive options. The reconstructive options will depend upon whether the tissues to be replaced included bone alone or both bone and soft tissue (composite resection).
Methodology: This study was carried out on nine patients who with benign tumors or cysts of the mandible that required segmental resection.
Subsequent to dental extraction, residual ridge resorption manifests as an inherent biological process unfolding over an approximate duration of one year. This intrinsic phenomenon entails a substantial diminution, occasionally reaching 50%, in the initial bucco-lingual dimensions of the mandibular bone. To address this issue, a dental procedure known as the two-stage ridge split intervention is employed.

The study aims to assess the efficacy of using collagen membrane in the treatment of distal periodontal defects of mandibular second molars following the removal of mesioangularly or horizontally impacted mandibular third molars surgically. Forty sites in twenty patients with bilaterally impacted mandibular third molars (mesioangular or horizontal) were considered for the study. In 20 test sites (Group A), after surgical removal of the mandibular third molar, a resorbable collagen membrane barrier was placed on the distal aspect of the mandibular second molar to cover the post-surgical bone defect.

Purpose: Two-dimensional imaging techniques are not competent enough to locate and measure the mental nerve loop in majority of the cases. Any injury to this loop results in pain/paresthesia/numbness in the region supplied by the mental nerve.
This case report presents the removal of complex composite odontoma in a young patient in the right body of mandible via the unilateral sagittal splitting of the mandible. This article shows that sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible can be very useful to access various pathologies in the body, angle, and ramus of the mandible and to navigate lesions that are in proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve. This technique also helps in avoiding postoperative morbidity when compared to other conventional surgical approaches.
