The history of neonatal sepsis related to early onset group B streptococcus (GBS) emerged in the early 1970s. The neonatal mortality rate was 55% for those neonates with invasive GBS disease. The first adopted guidelines by the medical community to prevent early onset GBS were developed in the 1990s.

A 58-year-old man has his condition diagnosed as actinic reticuloid on the basis of clinical and histologic findings and phototesting data. He had clinical features resembling mycosis fungoides in light-exposed areas. Histologic findings disclosed a bandlike infiltrate with atypical mononuclear cells in the dermis and scattered atypical cells in the epidermis.

Mouse epidermal cells in primary culture differentiate rapidly over a 2-week period leading to keratinization and sloughing of most of the plated cells. Cell replication was partially synchronized in these cultures with peaks of DNA synthesis at the 2nd and 8th day. The ability of epidermal cells to metabolize 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene and the subsequent binding of activated products to epidermal DNA was a function of the culture time.
