Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on using magnetic nanoparticles (MNP) combined with chitosan to improve targeted drug delivery for breast cancer treatment, aiming for better efficacy and fewer side effects.
  • MNPs were created through a co-precipitation method, and then encapsulated with the anti-cancer drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in chitosan beads, followed by a variety of characterization techniques to confirm their properties.
  • Results indicated a high entrapment efficiency of 85-90% and notable cytotoxic effects on breast cancer cells, with drug release varying under different pH levels, suggesting a promising strategy for targeted cancer therapy.

Deep-tissue solid cancer treatment has a poor prognosis, resulting in a very low 5-year patient survival rate. The primary challenges facing solid tumor therapies are accessibility, incomplete surgical removal of tumor tissue, the resistance of the hypoxic and heterogeneous tumor microenvironment to chemotherapy and radiation, and suffering caused by off-target toxicities. Here, sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is an evolving therapeutic approach that uses low-intensity ultrasound to target deep-tissue solid tumors.

Dengue viruses (DENV) are transmitted to humans through mosquito bites and infect millions globally. DENV uses heparan sulfate (HS) for attachment and cell entry by binding the envelope protein to highly sulfated HS on target cells. Therefore, inhibiting the binding between DENV and HS could be a promising strategy for preventing DENV infection.

Serotonin is an important biogenic monoamine neurotransmitter that has major influences on mental health disorders; its structural and conformational changes have important roles in the biological functions of the human body. The decreased serotonin levels in the human body are majorly attributed to the causes of anxiety, depressive disorders, mood disorders, etc. Therefore, the quantification of serotonin in our bodies is of utmost importance in unearthing the origin of such physiological disorders.
