Article Synopsis
  • DNA stores genetic information and has special features like bending and stability, which help control how genes work.
  • The shape of DNA (DNA Curvature) is important for starting the process of making proteins, which are essential for cells.
  • Recent research has focused on how DNA Curvature can help scientists find important areas in DNA called promoters, which help initiate gene activity.

We present a high-power ridge waveguide distributed feedback (DFB) laser with a high-reflective coating and a phase shift section at the rear facet. The phase shift section is realized by means of a micro heater that is placed parallel to the ridge waveguide and the uniform grating. This type of heater section is easy to integrate into existing laser designs and allows adjusting and controlling the spectral behavior of the distributed feedback laser by shifting the rear facet phase condition, which makes it possible to overcome the challenges of mode-hop-free tuning of regular DFB lasers with highly reflective cleaved rear facet.

Purpose: To assess the reliability of excising residual breast cancer lesions after neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NAST) using a previously localized paramagnetic seed (Magseed®) and the subsequent use of contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) to evaluate response.

Methods: Observational, prospective, multicenter study including adult women (> 18 years) with invasive breast carcinoma undergoing NAST between January 2022 and February 2023 with non-palpable tumor lesions at surgery. Radiologists marked tumors with Magseed® during biopsy before NAST, and surgeons excised tumors guided by the Sentimag® magnetometer.

The decreasing cost of whole genome sequencing has produced high volumes of genomic information that require annotation. The experimental identification of promoter sequences, pivotal for regulating gene expression, is a laborious and cost-prohibitive task. To expedite this, we introduce the Comprehensive Directory of Bacterial Promoters (CDBProm), a directory of predicted bacterial promoter sequences.

Approximately two-thirds of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) fail to respond to conventional antidepressants, suggesting that additional mechanisms are involved in the MDD pathophysiology. In this scenario, the glutamatergic system represents a promising therapeutic target for treatment-resistant depression. To our knowledge, this is the first study using semantic approach with systems biology to identify potential targets involved in the fast-acting antidepressant effects of ketamine and its enantiomers as well as identifying specific targets of (R)-ketamine.
