In contrast to adult mammalian hearts, the adult zebrafish heart efficiently replaces cardiomyocytes lost after injury. Here we reveal shared and species-specific injury response pathways and a correlation between Hmga1, an architectural non-histone protein, and regenerative capacity, as Hmga1 is required and sufficient to induce cardiomyocyte proliferation and required for heart regeneration. In addition, Hmga1 was shown to reactivate developmentally silenced genes, likely through modulation of H3K27me3 levels, poising them for a pro-regenerative gene program.

Utilization of maternal and child interventions is typically tracked in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) using coverage estimates from population representative surveys. These estimates cannot be directly applied to assess resource gaps in intervention delivery for which data on the population eligible is required. Moreover, coverage improvements may not necessarily reflect an expansion in utilization because of a decline in the population eligible.

Gabapentin and pregabalin are widely used in the management of neuropathic pain though their prescribing patterns, effectiveness, and safety profiles remain topics of ongoing research. This retrospective chart review analyzed the prevalence of gabapentinoid use in a chronic pain clinic over a one-year period from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024. The study examined patient records from four pain management physicians, focusing on those prescribed gabapentin or pregabalin.

Basal ganglia germinomas are uncommon neoplasms. Basal ganglia germinomas exhibit high sensitivity to both radiation therapy and chemotherapy. In contrast, surgery is the standard treatment for most primary brain tumors (such as gliomas, which are the most common tumors in the pediatric basal ganglia region).

The surge of antimicrobial resistance threatens efficacy of current antibiotics, particularly against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a highly resistant gram-negative pathogen. The asymmetric outer membrane (OM) of P. aeruginosa combined with its array of efflux pumps provide a barrier to xenobiotic accumulation, thus making antibiotic discovery challenging.
