Background Contemporary academic institutions confront substantial challenges in professional development amid rapid technological advancements. Historically, faculty professional development has relied on individual initiatives or peer assistance. Our medical school encountered analogous obstacles in implementing an innovative curriculum.

Crystalloid Liberal or Vasopressors Early Resuscitation in Sepsis-Study of Treatment's Echocardiographic Mechanisms (CLOVERS-STEM).

Importance: Receipt of fluid and vasopressors, common treatments in septic shock, may affect cardiac function.

Objectives: We sought to determine whether a liberal or restrictive fluid resuscitation strategy was associated with changes in cardiac function.

Design: We prospectively studied a subset of patients enrolled in the Crystalloid Liberal or Vasopressors Early Resuscitation in Sepsis (CLOVERS) trial, performing echocardiography at baseline and at 24 hours after randomization.

Examining the evidence for immune checkpoint therapy in high-grade serous ovarian cancer.

The 5-year survival rate for ovarian cancer has remained relatively static over the past number of years, which can be attributed in part to the lack of new therapeutic strategies to target this disease. Although numerous other cancer types have benefited from the success of immune checkpoint inhibitors, their use in clinical trials targeting ovarian cancer has shown limited efficacy. Most clinical trials have focused on PD-1/PD-L1 immune checkpoint blockade, either as a monotherapy or in combination with chemotherapies, however inhibiting other pathways may potentially be more efficacious in treating ovarian cancer.

Redesigning the Hospital Environment to Improve Restfulness.

Importance: Hospital wards are often not conducive to patient sleep, negatively affecting patient health and experience.

Objectives: To assess determinants of in-hospital restfulness and to design and test rest-promoting interventions on the wards in partnership with clinicians, staff, and patients.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This rapid-sequential mixed-methods quality improvement study was performed at a large urban academic hospital in St Louis, Missouri, from May 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022, with follow-up through hospitalization.
