Myxobacteria from soil can substantially reduce the bacterial load in a wound infection model.

Aims: Myxobacteria are non-pathogenic, saprophytic, soil-dwelling predatory bacteria known for their antimicrobial potential. Many pathogenic bacteria form biofilms to protect themselves from antimicrobial agents and the immune system. This study has investigated the predatory activities of myxobacteria against pathogenic bacteria in biofilms.

Fine particulate matter and nonaccidental and cause-specific mortality: Do associations vary by exposure assessment method?

Background: There is considerable heterogeneity in fine particulate matter (PM)-mortality associations between studies, potentially due to differences in exposure assessment methods. Our aim was to evaluate associations of PM predicted from different models with nonaccidental and cause-specific mortality.

Methods: We followed 107,906 participants of the Nurses' Health Study cohort from 2001 to 2016.

Increasing evidence shows extracellular vesicles (EVs) are primarily responsible for the beneficial effects of cell-based therapies. EVs derived from mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise as a source of EVs for cell-free therapies. The human placental fetal-maternal interface is a rich and abundant source of MSCs from which EVs can be isolated.

Validity evidence for endoscopic ultrasound competency assessment tools: Systematic review.

Competent endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) performance requires a combination of technical, cognitive, and non-technical skills. Direct observation assessment tools can be employed to enhance learning and ascertain clinical competence; however, there is a need to systematically evaluate validity evidence supporting their use. We aimed to evaluate the validity evidence of competency assessment tools for EUS and examine their educational utility.

The history of women and hemophilia: a narrative review of evolving beliefs and testing practices.

The history of hemophilia is well-documented, yet reports focus heavily on the male-perspective and severe forms of the disease. Although hemophilia was initially believed to only affect men with women seen as silent carriers, it is now universally acknowledged that women and girls can also be affected. In this narrative review, we track the progression of beliefs about women and hemophilia as documented in the literature from pre-1800's to the present time.
