The past decade has seen a huge increase in clinical research with psychedelic drugs and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), which have revealed great potential for treating mental health conditions. Given this progress in research, as well as the current unmet clinical need of millions of patients, in 2023, the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved the use of psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression and MDMA for PTSD to take effect from 1 July 2023. The campaign for TGA approval was led by a coalition comprising the Australian charity Mind Medicine Australia with support from Professor David Nutt, Drug Science, Professor Arthur Christopolous, Professor Chris Langmead (both from Monash University) and from large numbers of clinical, academic and patient groups.

- Findings indicate that higher cumulative HIV viral load (VL) and lower CD4 cell counts are significantly linked to an increased risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE) in people living with HIV (PWH).
- A study involving over 21,000 PWH over nearly five years revealed that those with higher cumulative VL had a 45% increased risk of VTE compared to those with lower VL. Additionally, a CD4 count below 100 cells/mm³ was associated with a fourfold increase in risk.
- The research suggests that managing HIV viral load and maintaining CD4 levels could be crucial strategies to lower the risk of VTE in PWH.
Using educational frameworks for learner assessment in genetic counseling (GC) training may help students and supervisors articulate developmentally appropriate clinical skills-based objectives and tasks that align with various stages of training as students work toward achieving entry-level competency. This professional issues case study describes how two GC programs adapted and implemented the RIME (Reporter-Interpreter-Manager-Educator) learner assessment framework, originally designed for medical education, to support and assess students' acquisition of practice-based competencies (PBCs) during clinical fieldwork placements. Each RIME level describes a different set of expectations regarding the skills students should be able to demonstrate based on the level of training they have achieved up to that point in time.
