Congenital diaphragmatic eventration in a stillborn foal.

A stillborn full term foal was presented at necropsy. The dilated duodenum and the dorsal and ventral left colon and cecum extended into the thoracic cavity and were encased by a thin transparent membrane originating from the diaphragm. The congenital condition was diagnosed as a developmental anomaly with diaphragmatic eventration.

Comparison of bifocal and progressive addition lenses on aviator target detection performance.

The objective of this project was to determine if the type of presbyopic correction worn by aviators, conventional bifocal versus progressive addition lenses (PAL's), differentially affects aviator visual search performance. Experienced aviators, most with tactical fighter aircraft experience, searched for high-contrast targets under simulated dawn/dust (mesopic) lighting conditions (approximately 3.0 cd/m2) while wearing either a standard bifocal (ST-25) or PAL spectacle correction.

Selection and processing of infrared materials.

The similarities and differences between specifications and fabrication techniques for optical glass and for ir materials are discussed. A general familiarity with this subject as applied to the visible region is assumed. Of the many materials known to transmit ir radiation, a group of nine is selected for emphasis; reasons are given for this selection, and specific comments made on each material.
