Studying the tumor microenvironment and surrounding lymph nodes is the main focus of current immunological research on soft tissue sarcomas (STS). However, due to the restricted opportunity to examine tumor samples, alternative approaches are required to evaluate immune responses in non-surgical patients. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the peripheral immune profile of STS patients, characterize patients accordingly and explore the impact of peripheral immunotypes on patient survival.

Article Synopsis
  • Leprosy is a chronic disease and significant global health issue, with new cases reported annually; this study investigates genetic variants associated with susceptibility and protection against the disease.
  • A case-control design involving 183 leprosy patients and 185 controls in southern Brazil was used to analyze specific genetic polymorphisms, identifying different frequencies in the control group that suggest a protective effect.
  • Results indicate that certain genetic polymorphisms (such as rs5743618, rs1816702, and rs4696483) are linked to resistance or susceptibility to leprosy, highlighting the role of T and C alleles in influencing risk and protection.

A monolithic microfluidic free-flow electrophoresis device, fabricated using low-temperature co-fired ceramic technology, is presented. The device integrates gold electrodes and a 20 µm thick transparent ceramic optical window, suitable for fluorescence imaging, into a multilevel microfluidic chamber design. The microfluidic chamber consists of a 60 µm deep separation chamber and two, 50 µm deep electrode chambers separated by 10 µm deep side channel arrays.

Copper molybdate nanoplates were synthesized by a sonochemical process at room temperature, which we report as a simple and cost-effective route. Structural analysis of the material by the Rietveld method of X-ray diffraction (XRD) data revealed lindgrenite Cu(MoO)(OH) in a single-phase structure. All the vibrational modes characteristic of the space group were identified by Raman vibrational and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopies.

In this work, we report the room-temperature synthesis of pure calcium tungstate (CaWO) and copper-doped calcium tungstate solid solution (CaCuWO) by using a sonochemistry method. These materials were structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The obtained XRD patterns were submitted to a Rietveld refinement showing, in both materials, a tetragonal phase with space group and point group of 4 and , respectively.
