A wearable cardiac ultrasound imager.

Continuous imaging of cardiac functions is highly desirable for the assessment of long-term cardiovascular health, detection of acute cardiac dysfunction and clinical management of critically ill or surgical patients. However, conventional non-invasive approaches to image the cardiac function cannot provide continuous measurements owing to device bulkiness, and existing wearable cardiac devices can only capture signals on the skin. Here we report a wearable ultrasonic device for continuous, real-time and direct cardiac function assessment.

The Cost of a Learner in the Pediatric Emergency Department: A Comparison Across Two Pediatric Emergency Departments.

Objectives: Experimental learning is a foundation of medical education, but a learner in the pediatric emergency department impacts utilization, time and disposition metrics. Our study sought to compare the effect of a resident learner on metrics between 2 pediatric emergency departments.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted in 2019 in 2 pediatric emergency departments of tertiary care hospitals.

Adaptation of a Simulation Model and Checklist to Assess Pediatric Emergency Care Performance by Prehospital Teams.

Introduction: Simulation tools to assess prehospital team performance and identify patient safety events are lacking. We adapted a simulation model and checklist tool of individual paramedic performance to assess prehospital team performance and tested interrater reliability.

Methods: We used a modified Delphi process to adapt 3 simulation cases (cardiopulmonary arrest, seizure, asthma) and checklist to add remote physician direction, target infants, and evaluate teams of 2 paramedics and 1 physician.

Evaluation of a topical sarolaner-selamectin combination to control flea populations on naturally infested cats in private residences in West Central Florida.

Historic data show that home flea infestations can be managed by treating all animals on the premises with a highly effective flea control product. The use of effective products has also been shown to reduce pruritus and minimize dermatologic lesions in both cats and dogs. Therefore, an in-home study was conducted in West Central Florida USA to evaluate the efficacy of a topically applied selamectin-sarolaner formulation to control fleas in naturally infested cats over a 12-week period.
