Background/aim: Surgery is the primary treatment for melanoma, but some patients refuse it, potentially affecting survival. This study examines demographic and clinical factors associated with surgery refusal to inform targeted interventions.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the National Cancer Database (NCDB) to analyze factors linked to surgery refusal in melanoma patients.

Recurrent tricuspid regurgitation (TR) following transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) has not been thoroughly investigated. We aimed to examine the predictive factors and mid-term outcomes of recurrent TR following successful TEER. Procedural success was defined as the reduction of TR grade to ≤2+, assessed at discharge.

Aims: The application of computer assisted techniques to the electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis is showing promising results. Our main aim was to apply a machine learning approach to the ECG analysis in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), to identify predictors of macroscopic fibrosis, a marker of ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death.

Methods: 136 patients diagnosed with HCM were included.

Patellofemoral offset is influenced by patellar thickness in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), with effects on extensor mechanism efficiency (EME), patellar contact moment arm (PCMA), and patellar contact force (PCF). This study utilized a computational model to better quantify these measures during knee range of motion (ROM).A computational model of a cruciate-sacrificing, posterior-stabilized TKA design was used to quantify moments at knee flexion angles from 0° to 135° when patella thickness was increased ("overstuffed") or decreased ("understuffed") by 2 mm and 5 mm from normal.

Evidence abounds that passive strategies such as rereading or highlighting are less effective than active strategies such as drawing models or explaining concepts to others. However, many studies have also reported that students tend to use learning strategies that they perceive as comfortable and easy, even when other strategies may be more successful. In this study, we asked students to self-report their study strategies after test-taking, as well as any planned new strategies.
