Biocompatibility of Ferrara intracorneal ring segment with and without chondroitin sulfate coating. Clinical and histopathological evaluation in rabbits.

Purpose: To investigate and compare the biocompatibility of two types of Ferrara intracorneal ring segment: with and without chondroitin sulfate coating by clinical and histopathological evaluation.

Methods: A randomized experimental study was carried out on thirty right-eye corneas from 30 Norfolk albino rabbits allocated into two experimental groups: Group G1 - implanted with Ferrara intracorneal ring segment without coating (FICRS) and Group G2 - implanted with Ferrara intracorneal ring segment with chondroitin sulfate coating (FICRS-CS). Left eyes formed the control group.

Mandibular resection via mandibular-lip L flap for the treatment of extensive multicystic Ameloblastoma.

Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor accounting for 1% of all tumors of the maxilla and mandibula. The mandibula is committed in 85% of the cases. The tumor is locally invasive, able to infiltrate bone marrow spaces, without radiographic or macroscopic evidence.

Determination of the lactate threshold and maximal blood lactate steady state intensity in aged rats.

The reliability of the lactate threshold (LT) determined in aged rats and its validity to identify an exercise intensity corresponding to the maximal blood lactate steady state (MLSS) were analyzed. Eighteen male aged Wistar rats (approximately 365 days) were submitted to two incremental swimming tests until exhaustion, consisting of an initial load corresponding to 1% of body mass (BM) and increments of 1% BM at each 3-min with blood lactate ([lac]) measurements. The LT was determined by visual inspection (LT(V)) as well by applying a polynomial function on the [lac]/workload ratio (LT(P)) by considering the vertices of the curve.

Optic coherence tomography in a patient with diffuse unilateral subacute neuroretinitis.

Purpose: To measure retinal nervous fiber layer (RNFL) thickness using OCT3 (Carl-Zeiss) in patients with diffuse unilateral subacute neuroretinitis (DUSN) with or without live worm and correlate it with visual acuity.

Methods: RNFL thickness, using RNFL thickness 3.4 program and best corrected visual acuity were measured in patients with DUSN between January 2005 and December 2006.

Intermediate uveitis complicated by choroidal granuloma following subretinal neovascular membrane: case reports.

Choroidal neovascularization is a very rare complication in intermediate uveitis. A 27-year-old female patient diagnosed with intermediate uveitis two years ago. She presented with 20/200 visual acuity, snowballs, snowbanks, and macular cystoid edema in the right eye observed by fluorescein and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
