The poplar bark beetle (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) is a key pest of poplar trees (Malpighiales: Salicaceae, genus ) across northern Spain. However, among the more than 200 poplar clones available on the market, the clone USA 184-411 has the highest susceptibility to attacks. We tested the hypothesis that compounds released by the most susceptible poplar clone chemically mediate behavior.

Therefore, the isolation and characterization of new indigenous strains for these purposes is a valuable strategy to favor the adaptation of these strains to the environment, thus improving their efficacy in the field. In this research, a new species, , isolated from vineyards in Ribera de Duero (Spain) area, has been identified and phylogenetically analyzed using 20 housekeeping genes isolated from the genome of 24 species.

The places studied belonged to the regions of Entre-Douro-e-Minho, Beira Interior, and Trás-os-Montes. To achieve the proposed objectives, buds were collected for egg and larva observation, galls were collected for larva, pupa, and adult observation and monitoring, and emergency boxes were used to identify the fauna present in the galls.
