Cellulose tosylate (MCC-Tos) is a key derivative for surface modification and a crucial precursor for cellulose compatibilization in click reactions, enabling its functionalization for advanced applications. Replacing tosyl groups with alkyne groups broadens cellulose's potential in biocompatible reactions, such as thiol-yne click chemistry and protein/enzyme immobilization. To achieve this, we optimized the heterogeneous synthesis of MCC-Tos using a Doehlert matrix statistical design, evaluating the influence and interaction of the reaction conditions.

One of the biggest limitations faced by autistic people is the lack of knowledge of their condition. Our study aims to evaluate and discuss the knowledge of autism among nurses, which is a social and health category often in close contact with autistic people. Given the limited exploration of awareness levels about autism among healthcare professionals, this study aims to investigate general and specific knowledge of autism within a group of nursing students enrolled in a master's degree.

Article Synopsis
  • The dysbiotic gut microbiota and bile acids play a crucial role in the immune dysfunction seen in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), as shown by changes in bile acid excretion and gut microbiota composition.
  • Elevated primary bile acids and reduced secondary bile acids were linked to increased disease severity and inflammatory responses in IBD patients and murine colitis models.
  • The study identified five specific bile acids that, when administered, could reverse colitis and intestinal dysbiosis, suggesting the potential for treatments targeting bile acid profiles in managing IBD.

Article Synopsis
  • Carbon dioxide (CO) is produced by cellular respiration and can be deadly at high levels, especially in unventilated spaces.
  • The paper discusses six cases of CO poisoning due to grape must fermentation in a confined area, resulting in four fatalities and two survivors.
  • Investigations included environmental gas measurements, autopsies, and histopathological analyses, revealing toxic CO levels and signs of alcohol in the deceased, leading to recommendations for improved post-mortem CO intoxication diagnosis methods.

In this study, we report the synthesis and characterization of a novel photocatalyst composite composed of functionalized carbon nanotubes (f-CNT) and phenyl-modified graphitic carbon nitride (PhCN). The incorporation of the phenyl group extends the absorption range into the visible spectrum compared to pure g-CN. Additionally, the formation of the heterostructure in the f-CNT/PhCN composite exhibits improved charge transfer efficiency, facilitating the separation and transfer of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and reducing recombination rates.
