Four-Point C2 Fixation for Unstable Atlas Fractures: Technical Note.

Traumatic burst fractures of the atlas occur with axial loading of the cervical spine. Many of these injuries can be treated by nonsurgical management with external orthosis; however, cases with transverse ligament disruption or significant C1 lateral mass displacement require internal reduction and fixation. In patients with poor bone quality in the setting of osteoporosis or chronic illness, atlanto-axial fixation and reduction of the fracture can be a challenge, necessitating extension of fusion to the occiput, which significantly limits the range of motion.

A digital tool for multidimensional assessment and prediction of treatment effectiveness in chronic pain management.

Given the multidimensional aspect of pain, the assessment of treatment efficacy is challenging. The prospective observational multicenter PREDIBACK study aimed to assess, compare, and predict the effectiveness of different treatments for persistent spinal pain syndrome type 2 (PSPS-T2) using a digital tool and the Multidimensional Clinical Response Index (MCRI) including pain intensity, functional disability, quality of life, anxiety and depression, and pain surface. Results indicated that neurostimulation was the most effective treatment at 3-, 6-, 9-, and 12-month follow-up compared to baseline, leading to significant improvements in pain, function, and quality of life, whereas optimized medical management (OMM) and spinal reoperation showed no significant benefits.

Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for the Evaluation of the Lateral Elbow: Implications for Rehabilitation Providers.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) has emerged as a valuable diagnostic tool in the evaluation and management of lateral elbow pathologies. This imaging modality provides high-resolution, dynamic visualization of superficial soft tissue structures, making it particularly advantageous for assessing conditions such as lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), ligamentous injuries, radial tunnel syndrome, and other common disorders. This article reviews the utility of MSKUS for rehabilitation providers, focusing on its role in accurately identifying pathoanatomical changes, guiding treatment strategies, and monitoring therapeutic outcomes.

Parental Perspectives on Pediatric Surgical Recovery: Narrative Analysis of Free-Text Comments From a Postoperative Survey.

Background: Qualitative experience data can inform health care providers how to best support families during pediatric postoperative recovery. Patient experience data can also provide actionable information to guide health care quality improvement; positive feedback can confirm the efficacy of current practices and systems, while negative comments can identify areas for improvement.

Objective: This study aimed to understand families' perspectives regarding their children's surgical recovery using qualitative patient experience data (free-text comments) from a prospective cohort study conducted within a larger study developing a postoperative-outcome risk stratification model.

The Use of Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for the Evaluation of the Iliopsoas in the Anterior Hip: A Guide for Rehabilitation Providers.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK-US) has become an increasingly valuable tool in the evaluation and management of soft tissue and joint pathologies, particularly for rehabilitation providers. This article highlights the use of MSK-US for assessing the iliopsoas tendon and musculature in the anterior hip. The iliopsoas complex is often implicated in conditions such as tendinitis, snapping hip syndrome, and hip flexor strains, and accurate assessment can be challenging due to its deep anatomical location.
