During a 12 to 25 month follow-up period, 252 renal transplant recipients maintained with continuous sulfa prophylaxis were observed for evidence of bacteriuria. Although symptoms were rare, positive cultures were obtained in 6 percent of the patients who responded to conventional antibiotic outpatient therapy. Compared with sulfisoxazole, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole led to slightly fewer infections, especially with gram-negative organisms.

A series of 35 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer were treated with combination chemotherapy consisting of cis-diamminedichloro platinum (II), Adriamycin, 5-fluorouracil, methotrexate and vincristine. The objective response rate was 37.1% and the overall median survival 52.

It has been our policy to employ radical lung resection as a primary treatment whenever possible in locally far-advanced lung cancer. In order to assess the therapeutic results, a total of 132 patients with locally far-advanced lung cancer who had radical lung resection were reviewed. Postoperative mortality was 10%.

An animal model system was established for immunotherapy of lung cancer using line-1 lung carcinoma in Balb/cR mice and xenogeneic lymphocytes from New Zealand white (N2W) rabbits. The immunization schedule consisted of footpad and subcutaneous injections of 1 X 10(8) viable line-1 cells into two rabbits, twice at a weekly interval. Two other rabbits were maintained as source of unsensitized lymphocytes.
