This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the decision of patients with severe knee osteoarthritis, who are covered by universal health insurance, to undergo total knee replacement (TKR) surgery, as recommended by orthopedic physicians. A questionnaire survey was used to collect participants' demographics, socio-economic status, medical history, baseline Oxford Knee Score (OKS), and EuroQol-5 Dimension Questionnaire (EQ-5D). We included 704 patients with severe knee osteoarthritis, of which 487 underwent TKR (surgery group), while 217 did not (non-surgery group).

Article Synopsis
  • Copy Number Variations (CNVs) are crucial in understanding complex diseases and vary across different populations, necessitating large sample studies for accurate analysis.
  • The CNV-Finder pipeline utilizes deep learning, specifically Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, to streamline the identification of CNVs in specific genomic areas, making subsequent analyses like genome sequencing more efficient.
  • The tool has been validated with data from various cohorts, focusing on genes related to neurological diseases, and includes an interactive web application for researchers to visualize and refine their findings based on model predictions.

Targeting neutrophil function has gained attention as a propitious therapeutic strategy for diverse inflammatory diseases. Accordingly, a series of enone-based derivatives were developed to inhibit neutrophil-mediated inflammation, showing promise for treating inflammatory diseases. These compounds fall into two clusters with distinct effects: one inhibits neutrophilic superoxide (SO) anion production and elastase release triggered by N-formyl-Met-Leu-Phe (fMLF), with compound being most effective (IC values of 1.
