Background And Aims: Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) produces long-term reverse remodelling which requires greater adenosine triphosphate delivery to the contractile machinery. Whilst the heart retains some metabolic flexibility in non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy, whether this correlates with reverse remodelling is unknown. This study investigated whether CRT acutely changes cardiac substrate uptake, and whether this translates to favourable reverse remodelling.

Objectives: Celiac disease (CeD) has been associated with a low response to hepatitis B (HBV) vaccination, but guidelines for testing and revaccination among individuals with CeD are sparse. We examined the risk of future HBV among individuals with CeD in a population-based Swedish cohort. Furthermore, we examined the rate of prior HBV infection in CeD patients.

Background: The purpose of this study was to describe the characteristics of the NIH-funded grant portfolio focused on cancer and accelerated aging.

Methods: Research project grants focused on cancer survivors and aging trajectories that were newly funded during fiscal years 2013 through 2023 were identified by first using a text mining algorithm from the NIH Research, Condition, and Disease Categorization (RCDC) system with cancer survivorship-relevant terms and then a list of aging-related terms that included aging, neurocognition, and physical function. Included grants were double coded to extract study characteristics.

Introduction: Nonceliac wheat sensitivity (NCWS) is characterized by a symptomatic response to the ingestion of foods containing wheat and related cereal grains in the absence of celiac disease or wheat allergy. Despite efforts to identify the constituent component(s) of wheat responsible for triggering NCWS, no consensus has emerged, leading to competing claims. We aimed to systematically evaluate the literature and provide an evidence-based conclusion on the contribution of specific wheat components to NCWS.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease characterized by small intestinal villus atrophy and inflammation upon exposure to gluten. It has a global prevalence of approximately 1%. Although the gluten-free diet can be an effective treatment, this diet is burdensome with practical difficulties and frequent inadvertent gluten exposure.
