Unlabelled: Aspects of the Quaternary sedimentary geology of South-East Asia have proven problematic in terms of interpretation as to the origins and relationships of the surface sediment layers. The MIS 20 large meteorite impact (., 788 to 785 ka) occurred within mainland South-East Asia, evident from the well-researched 'Australasian Tektite Strewn Field' which extends over at least one tenth of the surface of the Earth.

Article Synopsis
  • The LAMP trial investigated whether adding pulsed-xenon UV (PX-UV) disinfection to standard cleaning reduces healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), focusing on environmentally implicated HAIs (eiHAIs).
  • Conducted in two hospitals, the study included over 25,000 patients and compared the incidence of eiHAIs between the PX-UV group and a control group, finding no significant differences in infection rates.
  • Ultimately, the trial concluded that adding PX-UV to terminal cleaning did not effectively reduce eiHAIs, suggesting the need for further research on hospital disinfection methods.

Article Synopsis
  • Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a serious brain condition mostly found in older people, causing memory and thinking problems due to harmful proteins buildup in the brain.
  • Scientists studied how removing a protein called tau from human brain cells could help understand the effects of another harmful protein called amyloid-beta (Aβ) on brain functions.
  • The research showed that taking away tau reduced nerve cell activity and helped protect against damage from Aβ, suggesting that lowering tau levels could be a possible way to help treat AD in the future.

Article Synopsis
  • Early human migration out of Africa occurred multiple times during the Middle and Late Pleistocene, using routes through northeastern Africa into the Levant.
  • Evidence from wetland sediments in the southern Levant indicates that this area was likely more hospitable, with savannahs and grasslands during the last interglaciation, supporting human migration.
  • Our research, including luminescence dating of wetland sediments in Wadi Gharandal, suggests the Jordan Rift Valley was a crucial corridor that provided sufficient moisture for migrating populations heading into western Asia and northern Arabia.

As today's most prevalent and costly healthcare-associated infection, hospital-onset Clostridioides difficile infection (HO-CDI) represents a major threat to patient safety world-wide. This review will discuss how new insights into the epidemiology of CDI have quantified the prevalence of C. difficile (CD) spore contamination of the patient-zone as well as the role of asymptomatically colonized patients who unavoidable contaminate their near and distant environments with resilient spores.
