Bloodstream infection is a major public health concern associated with high mortality and high healthcare costs worldwide. Bacteremia can trigger fatal sepsis whose prevention, diagnosis, and management have been recognized as a global health priority by the World Health Organization. Additionally, infection control is increasingly threatened by antimicrobial resistance, which is the focus of global action plans in the framework of a One Health response.

A study on 5CB liquid crystal composites with SiO nanoparticles and an additional commixture with FeO nanoparticles using light transmission and SAW measurements is presented. The prepared liquid crystal composites exhibited an interesting memory effect characterized by the hysteresis of both light transmission and SAW attenuation responses investigated in the nematic phase. While in the case of SiO nanoparticles as dopants, the liquid crystal composite showed an improvement in the memory effect, the addition of FeO magnetic nanoparticles resulted in the memory effect decreasing.

We report the complete genome sequence of strain SP-1303, identified as part of lineage 8 and associated with Far East scarlet-like fever. The genome includes the chromosome, the -virulence plasmid (pYV) encoding a type III secretion system essential for virulence, the pVM82 plasmid, and two cryptic plasmids.

ISG15 plays a crucial role in the innate immune response and has been well-studied due to its antiviral activity and regulation of signal transduction, apoptosis, and autophagy. ISG15 is a ubiquitin-like protein that is activated by an E1 enzyme (Uba7) and transferred to a cognate E2 enzyme (UBE2L6) to form a UBE2L6-ISG15 intermediate that functions with E3 ligases that catalyze conjugation of ISG15 to target proteins. Despite its biological importance, the molecular basis by which Uba7 catalyzes ISG15 activation and transfer to UBE2L6 is unknown as there is no available structure of Uba7.

The effect of spherical magnetic nanoparticles with different size (5, 10, 15, and 20 nm) and volume concentration (10-3, 5 × 10-4, and 10-4) on liquid crystal 4-cyano-4'-hexylbiphenyl (6CB) behavior was investigated using surface acoustic wave (SAW). The attenuation response of SAW propagating along with the substrate/liquid crystal interface was used to study the structural changes induced by an applied magnetic field. The obtained results showed the shift of the threshold magnetic field with an increase in the volume concentration of nanoparticles toward lower fields and also the decrease in the isotropic-nematic phase transition temperature depending on the nanoparticle size and the nanoparticle volume fraction.
