Background: Women with ovarian cancer (OC) and a pathogenic variant in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes are at increased risk of developing breast cancer (BC). Evidence for long term outcomes in these patients who undergo bilateral risk reduction mastectomy (RRM) after ovarian cancer is sparse. The aim of this study was to analyse the long-term breast cancer-related outcomes of patients who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and found to have BRCA1 or 2 pathogenic variants.

The aqueous zinc-sulfur battery holds promise for significant capacity and energy density with low cost and safe operation based on environmentally benign materials. However, it suffers from the sluggish kinetics of the conversion reaction. Here, we highlight the efficacy of molybdenum(IV) sulfide (MoS) to reduce the overpotential of S-ZnS conversion in aqueous electrolytes and study the discharge products formed at the solid-solid and solid-liquid interfaces using experimental and theoretical approaches.

Subduction of the Cocos and Nazca oceanic plates beneath the Caribbean plate drives the upward movement of deep fluids enriched in carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and iron along the Central American Volcanic Arc (CAVA). These compounds fuel diverse subsurface microbial communities that in turn alter the distribution, redox state, and isotopic composition of these compounds. Microbial community structure and functions vary according to deep fluid delivery across the arc, but less is known about how microbial communities differ along the axis of a convergent margin as geological features (e.

Article Synopsis
  • Chest wall perforator flaps are gaining traction in breast cancer surgery as a less invasive alternative to mastectomy, but there’s still a lack of standardized practices regarding patient selection and outcomes.
  • This study analyzed data from 603 breast cancer patients across three major hospitals in Sweden, the UK, and Australia, focusing on the reasons for using these flaps and evaluating surgical outcomes.
  • Results showed a low complication rate (8.6%) and high effectiveness of the technique, suggesting that chest wall perforator flaps can safely help many women avoid mastectomy when performed by experienced surgeons.
