Background: Clinical trial success hinges on efficient participant recruitment and retention. However, slow accrual and attrition frequently hinder progress. To address these challenges, a novel dashboard tool with control charts has been developed to provide investigators on the multi-site study of Delirium and Neuropsychological Recovery among Emergency General Surgery Survivors (DANE study) with timely information to improve trial recruitment.

Separation of power and expertise: Evidence of the tyranny of experts in Sweden's COVID-19 responses.

Whereas most countries in the COVID-19 pandemic imposed shutdowns and curfews to mitigate the contagion, Sweden uniquely pursued a more voluntarist approach. In this article, our interest is primarily on how and why Sweden's approach to the pandemic was so unique. There are two parts to this research question: (1) why did virtually all other nations follow a radical lockdown protocol despite limited evidence to its effectiveness and (2) why did Sweden not follow this same protocol despite strong political pressures? The answers to these questions lie within typical government technocracy versus Sweden's constitutional separation of government and technocracy.

Vehicle-related injuries in and around a medium sized Swedish City - bicyclist injuries caused the heaviest burden on the medical sector.

Background: A data acquisition from the medical sector may give one important view of the burden on the society caused by vehicle related injuries. The official police-reported statistics may only reflect a part of all vehicle-related injured seeking medical attention. The aim is to provide a comprehensive picture of the burden of vehicle related injuries on the medical sector (2013), and to compare with official police-reported statistics and the development year 2000-2013.
