Setting: Alcohol is a major cause of health and social costs and harms in Canada. While research and awareness of harms caused by alcohol are on the rise, few transdisciplinary platforms exist that are committed to facilitating bold alcohol policy change to reduce health inequities and improve lives.

Intervention: In response to feedback heard during engagement for the Canadian Alcohol Policy Evaluation project, an alcohol policy-focused community of practice (CoP) was launched in January 2022.

TH9507, an analogue of human growth hormone-releasing factor (hGRF1-44NH2) minimally modified by addition of a trans-3-hexenoyl moiety to Tyr1 of the amino acid sequence, was found to be resistant to dipeptidyl aminopeptidase-IV deactivation. Compared to natural hGRF1-44NH2, the modification slowed the in vitro degradation of the peptide in rat, dog and human plasma and prolonged the in vivo plasma elimination kinetics of immunoreactive TH9507. Plasma growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) markedly increased in pigs, rats and dogs after daily repeat intravenous or subcutaneous injections of TH9507 at doses up to 600 microg/kg.

Despite the negative physical and mental health outcomes of sexual assault, a minority of sexually assaulted women seek immediate post-assault medical and legal services. This study identified the number and types of acute forensic medical procedures used by women presenting at a hospital-based urgent care centre between 1997 and 2001 within 72 hours following a reported sexual assault. The study also examined assault and non-assault factors associated with the use of procedures.

In 1982, Guillemin et al reported the isolation of the human (h) growth hormone (GH) releasing factor (GRF) from a pancreatic tumour in an acromegalic patient. Since then, work to develop potent GRF analogues has been widespread and the rat has been the main animal model used. The aim of the present study was to compare the efficacy, potency and specificity of two GRF analogues with those of the native GRF(1-29)NH(2)using pig (p) as the animal model.

The physiological roles of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) in adult other than their effects on tissue growth is to maintain the integrity of the organism. It has been proposed that reduced availability of both hormones in late adulthood may contribute to the initiation of the major alterations and senescent changes in body composition that characterize normal human aging. Since accumulated evidence points to a direct interplay of GH with chondrocytes in cartilage, we determined in the present study the effect of aging on both basal and GH-stimulated IGF-I production from rat cultured chondrocytes.
