Calorimetry probe for runaway electron heat load measurement at COMPASS.

Runaway electrons, accelerated in a tokamak discharge to high energies (tens of MeV), can cause serious damage to plasma facing components. Therefore, it is important to develop effective mitigation strategies to reduce the risk of tokamak damage. To study the effects of various mitigation strategies, a dedicated diagnostic, the calorimetry probe, was developed at the COMPASS tokamak.

Photoregulatory functions drive variation in eye coloration across macaque species.

Primates, the most colorful mammalian radiation, have previously served as an interesting model to test the functions and evolutionary drivers of variation in eye color. We assess the contribution of photo-regulatory and communicative functions to the external eye appearance of nine macaque species representing all the branches of their radiation. Macaques' well described social structure and wide geographical distribution make them interesting to explore.

Science is even going so far that some authors are beginning to see the need to advocate for the patient's right to die. The authors of the recommended resuscitation procedures themselves state that prolonging the inevitable dying process should be considered a harm (dysthanasia).

Blood pressure behavior during exercise in patients with diastolic dysfunction and a hypertensive response to exercise.

A hypertensive response to exercise is a precursor leading to hypertension, which is a major risk factor for the development of heart failure and diastolic dysfunction. Herein, we aimed to assess blood pressure (BP) in patients with a hypertensive response to exercise and different degrees of diastolic dysfunction. Between January 2009 and December 2014, 373 patients with a hypertensive response to exercise (HRE) and echocardiographic data assessing diastolic function were enrolled at the University Hospital of Zurich.

Blood pressure response during exercise testing in individuals with and without hypertension: The value of the recovery phase.

Background: Hypertension and exercise testing are essential for cardiovascular risk assessment. However, an exact description of blood pressure (BP) in patients with a hypertensive response during exercise (HRE), especially in the recovery phase is lacking. Herein, we aimed to analyse BP and heart rate during exercise testing and recovery in patients with an HRE.
