Foreign body ingestion is a common pediatric complaint. Most foreign bodies pass spontaneously through the gastrointestinal tract, but bowel obstruction is a rare complication that can occur. We report a case of a 14-month-old infant with complete bowel obstruction due to ingestion of a polymer bead used for botanical arrangements.

The accuracy of renal point of care ultrasound to detect hydronephrosis in children with a urinary tract infection.

The objective of this study was to investigate the accuracy of renal point of care ultrasound (POCUS) for the detection of hydronephrosis in children with a urinary tract infection (UTI). We prospectively included all patients with a final diagnosis of UTI who visited our pediatric emergency department between November 2009 and April 2011. Emergency physicians were encouraged to perform a renal POCUS during these visits, and a follow-up renal ultrasonography was performed by a radiologist who was blinded to the results of POCUS.

Grand mal seizures: an unusual and puzzling primary presentation of ruptured hepatic hydatid cyst.

We report a case of hepatic hydatidosis where the first clinical manifestations, generalized seizures after minor head and abdominal trauma, and delayed anaphylaxis, made the primary diagnosis difficult. Severe anaphylaxis has been reported as initial presentation of quiescent hepatic hydatidosis. In endemic areas, the diagnosis must be carefully ruled out in patients experiencing abrupt anaphylactic shock of uncertain etiology.

[Epidural hematoma in a child with hemophilia: diagnostic difficulties].

Case Reports: The cases of an extensive epidural hematoma in two boys with severe hemophilia are reported.

Conclusion: Acute onset of severe neck pain or backache leads to the diagnosis of epidural hematoma in children with hemophilia, even in the absence of neurologic symptoms.
