Low-temperature scanning tunneling spectroscopy is a key method to probe electronic and magnetic properties down to the atomic scale, but suffers from extreme vibrational sensitivity. This makes it challenging to employ closed-cycle cooling with its required pulse-type vibrational excitations, albeit this is mandatory to avoid helium losses for counteracting the continuously raising helium prices. Here, we describe a compact ultra-high vacuum scanning tunneling microscope (STM) system with an integrated primary pulse tube cooler (PTC) for closed-cycle operation.

The association between early hypotension and neurologic outcome after pediatric cardiac ECPR in children with cardiac disease.

Objective: Explore the relationship between early hypotension after ECPR and survival to hospital discharge (SHD) with favorable neurologic outcome (FNO) in children with cardiac disease.

Methods: Retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing ECPR at a single center pediatric cardiac intensive care unit. Hypotension was defined as MAP < 5th percentile for age.

Diverse somatic Transformer and sex chromosome karyotype pathways regulate gene expression in Drosophila gonad development.

The somatic sex determination gene () is required for the highly sexually dimorphic development of most somatic cells, including those of the gonads. In addition, somatic is required for the germline development even though it is not required for sex determination within germ cells. Germ cell autonomous gene expression is also necessary for their sex determination.
