Serum Sodium Concentration During Arginine Vasopressin Infusion in Critically Ill Children.

Background: Intravenous arginine vasopressin is increasingly used for the treatment of critically ill children. It bears the risk of hyponatraemia with potential severe long-term sequelae, but data on hyponatraemia as a side effect of continuous vasopressin infusion for paediatric intensive care patients is scarce.

Methods: In this retrospective analysis performed at a tertiary care paediatric intensive care unit with 2000 annual admissions, patients were included if they were treated with intravenous vasopressin between 2016 and 2022.

Aphthous lesions turned out to be neonatal very early-onset inflammatory bowel disease: a case report.

Neonatal diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) proves challenging due to its non-specific symptoms. A term-born neonate showing states of inflammation and aphthae was treated for sepsis and candidiasis before being diagnosed with interleukin-10 receptor deficiency and consecutive IBD. The patient was finally successfully treated by stem cell transplantation.

A Phase 1a/1b Study of Fostroxacitabine Bralpamide (Fostrox) Monotherapy in Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Solid Tumor Liver Metastases.

Purpose: To evaluate safety, preliminary efficacy, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics, of fostroxacitabine bralpamide (fostrox, MIV-818), a novel oral troxacitabine nucleotide prodrug designed to direct exposure to the liver, while minimizing systemic toxicity.

Patients And Methods: Fostrox monotherapy was administered in an open-label, single-arm, first-in-human, phase 1a/1b study, in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, or solid tumor liver metastases. The first part (1a) consisted of intra/inter-patient escalating doses (3 mg to 70 mg) QD for up to 5 days, and the second part (1b), doses of 40 mg QD for 5 days, in 21-day cycles.

The Feasibility of an Experimental Hypobaric Simulation to Evaluate the Safety of Closed-Loop Insulin Delivery Systems in Flight-Related Atmospheric Pressure Changes.

Hybrid closed-loop (HCL) systems remain underexplored within aviation, and as atmospheric pressure changes can independently affect insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring readings, this preliminary study assessed the feasibility of HCL safety evaluation, in both fasting and post-prandial states, by using hypobaric chamber to simulate flights. Participants with type 1 diabetes and on HCL were studied: Medtronic Guardian 4-Medtronic 780G-SmartGuard ( = 4), Dexcom G6-Omnipod DASH-Android APS ( = 1), and Dexcom G6-Ypsomed Pump-CamAPS ( = 1). Flight cabin pressures of 550 mmHg and 750 mmHg were simulated in a hypobaric chamber.

Winter birth: A factor of poor functional outcome in a Swiss early psychosis cohort.

Objective: Winter birth has consistently been identified as a risk factor for schizophrenia. This study aimed to determine whether individuals born during this season are also at higher risk for early psychosis and whether this is associated with distinct functional and clinical outcomes.

Methods: We conducted a prospective study on 222 patients during their early phase of psychosis in Switzerland, nested in the Treatment and Early Intervention in Psychosis (TIPP) cohort.
