Guiding the Lean Design of a Hospital's New Laboratory: A Case Study.

Purpose: To present the process used by a clinical laboratory to guide the design of their new facility, part of a major campus expansion at a pediatric hospital.

Objective: The primary objective was to generate information about arrangement and allocation of laboratory space and functional flows in the early phases of the expansion project.

Background: Seattle Children's Hospital has increased the capacity of their primary campus in response to growing demand for specialized services.

Effect of sleeping alone on sleep quality in female bed partners of snorers.

The aim of the present study was to objectively measure the effect of sleeping alone for one night on sleep quality in female bed partners of male snorers. Females complaining of poor sleep due to snoring by their bed partner and having no known hearing loss or snoring were included in a prospective multicentre cross-sectional study. 23 females underwent one polysomnography recording while sleeping with their bed partner and another while sleeping alone.

Relationships between endosonographic appearan e and clinical or manometric features in patients with achalasia.

Background: The existence of endosonographic abnormalities of the oesophagus in achalasia is discussed. The place of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) needs to be clarified.

Patients: Thirty five untreated patients suffering from achalasia and 28 controls without oesophageal disease were prospectively enrolled since 1993.

[Palliative treatment of esophageal neoplastic stenosis using bipolar electrocoagulation probe].

Objective, Patients And Methods: The objective of this study was to evaluate the results of palliative bipolar electrocoagulation probe (BICAP) treatment in 26 patients with non surgical, obstructive esophageal cancer. The mean tumor length was 7.2 cm.

[A case of pure unilobar Caroli disease].

We describe a new case of pure Caroli disease and review of the literature. Although often sporadic, this disease is usually considered an autosomal recessive hereditary disease. It is often either associated with another congenital hepatorenal fibrocystic disease or with extrahepatic bile duct dilatation.
