The European Dosimetry Group has been organising international intercomparisons (ICs) for personal dosemeters on a regular basis. The IC announced in 2020 was postponed to the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021 due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions. The irradiation plan consisted of nine irradiation setups with five different photon radiation qualities (S-Cs, S-Co, N-150, W-60, W-80) and two different angles of irradiation incidence (0o and 60o).

Article Synopsis
  • Individual monitoring of external radiation is regulated by national bodies, ensuring that services meet specific technical standards for accurate dosimetry results.
  • Accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard is increasingly common among European individual monitoring services, enhancing the reliability of their measurements and facilitating international acceptance of results.
  • A guide has been developed by EURADOS to help these services navigate the accreditation process, detailing how to meet ISO/IEC 17025 requirements with practical examples and assistance for audits.

Article Synopsis
  • Estimating radiation exposure for workers in interventional procedures is tough, especially because these procedures can expose them to high doses of radiation.
  • To protect themselves, workers are required to wear protective garments, prompting the need for accurate measurement techniques for doses received, particularly to the lens of the eye.
  • The study examines data from four European dosimetry services to create practical guidelines for using personal dosimeters in such settings, also discussing the pros and cons of using one versus two dosimeters.

This paper presents the results of the evaluation of the uncertainty in measurement of the personal dose equivalent, Hp(10), at nine individual monitoring services (IMSs) in Asia and the Pacific region. Different types of passive dosemeters were type-tested according to the International Electrotechnical Commission 62387 requirements. The uncertainty in measurement was calculated using the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement approach.

A regulatory authority for radiation safety should continuously evaluate and improve the national safety framework, in line with current requirements and standards. In this context, the Greek Atomic Energy Commission initiated a series of concerted actions. The radiation dose to the population due to public and medical exposures was assessed.
