The protein P0 serves as the viral suppressor of RNA silencing (VSR) for poleroviruses, but elicits the hypersensitive response (HR) in specific Nicotiana species. We subjected P0 proteins from turnip yellows virus (P0) and potato leafroll virus (P0) to serial deletion and performed extensive site-directed mutagenesis of P0. Most deletions of the N-terminus and many substitution mutations disrupted both HR elicitation and VSR activity.

This study compared neuronal firing patterns in the brain after nonlinear burst and tonic SCS in a rat model of painful radiculopathy.
Methods: Neuronal activity was recorded in the ACC or S1 before and after nonlinear burst or tonic SCS on day 7 following painful cervical nerve root compression (NRC) or sham surgery.
Bacterial arthropod-borne pathogens can often cause fever in Africa, but rural laboratories in these settings are usually too basic to provide a precise picture of their epidemiological impact. Our aim was to determine the prevalence of bacterial pathogens in fleas and lice in a rural area of southeast Ethiopia. Between July and November 2013, we extracted DNA from 91 fleas ( [ = 50; 54.

Prevalence of infection with Francisella tularensis in common voles increased to 33% during a vole population fluctuation. This finding confirms that voles are spillover agents for zoonotic outbreaks.
