Retrospective Molecular Survey on Bacterial and Protozoan Abortive Agents in Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) from Central Italy.

Bacterial and protozoan agents can determine abortion and other reproductive disorders in domestic ruminants, but data regarding their occurrence in wild ruminants are scanty worldwide, including in Italy. The aim of this retrospective study was to verify the occurrence of the main bacterial and protozoan abortive agents in 72 spleen samples previously collected from roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) living in mountain areas of Central Italy. All samples were collected and submitted to DNA extraction for other investigations.

Impact of the prehospital activation strategy in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous revascularization: a single center community hospital experience.

The strategy of prehospital activation by the emergency medical system (EMS) in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) has been poorly adopted among the US hospitals that currently offer 24/7 primary percutaneous coronary intervention. In this study, we report a single center experience after the implementation of this strategy. From 2008 to 2011, we identified a total 188 STEMI patients (age 65 ± 15 years) presenting via EMS for primary percutaneous coronary intervention.

Micro-Raman spectroscopy as a routine tool for garnet analysis.

A rapid system to obtain molar compositions of minerals belonging to the garnet group by means of Raman spectroscopy is illustrated here. A series of standard garnets, whose composition was determined by means of Wavelength Dispersive System (WDS) electron microprobe measurements, was used to correlate the wavenumbers of the different Raman peaks with chemical composition. A simple software routine was then developed in order to obtain garnet molar composition starting from the Raman spectrum, based on the assumption that in a solid solution belonging to the garnet family the Raman wavenumbers are linear combinations of end member wavenumbers, weighted by their molar fraction.
