Diagnosing Sport-Related Flow Limitations in the Iliac Arteries Using Near-Infrared Spectroscopy.

Background: A flow limitation in the iliac arteries (FLIA) in endurance athletes is notoriously difficult to diagnose with the currently available diagnostic tools. At present, a commonly used diagnostic measure is a decrease in ankle brachial index with flex hips (ABIFlexed) following a maximal effort exercise test. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a non-invasive technique that measures skeletal muscle oxygenation as reflected by the balance of O2 delivery from microvascular blood flow and O2 uptake by metabolic activity.

In vivo nerve identification in head and neck surgery using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy.

Background: Careful identification of nerves during head and neck surgery is essential to prevent nerve damage. Currently, nerves are identified based on anatomy and appearance, optionally combined with electromyography (EMG). In challenging cases, nerve damage is reported in up to 50%.

Interventions aimed at preventing and reducing overweight/obesity among children and adolescents: a meta-synthesis.

The prevalence of child and adolescent obesity has been a major worldwide problem for decades. To stop the number of youth with overweight/obesity from increasing, numerous interventions focusing on improving children's weight status have been implemented. The growing body of research on weight-related interventions for youth has been summarized by several meta-analyses aiming to provide an overview of the effectiveness of interventions.

Cohort Profile Update: The Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study (MoBa).

This is an update of the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort Study (MoBa) cohort profile which was published in 2006. Pregnant women attending a routine ultrasound examination were initially invited. The first child was born in October 1999 and the last in July 2009.

Epidemiologic trends of leprosy for the 21st century.

Major gaps still exist in the knowledge about leprosy, particularly with regard to how it spreads. Leprosy epidemiology remains complicated due to the specific characteristics of Mycobacterium leprae. To describe epidemiologic trends for the 21st century, the first part of this paper gives an overview of the epidemiology of leprosy, followed by past trends and the present situation of new-case detection as a proxy of the incidence.
