An Integrative Review of Brainwave Entrainment Benefits for Human Health.

Brainwave Entrainment (BWE) is a noninvasive method of neuromodulation based on the principle that auditory or visual stimulation at a specific frequency can lead the brain's electrocortical activity to oscillate at the frequency of the external signal or its multiples. This phenomenon could be used to alter physiological and psychological states. Therefore, we conducted an integrative review to answer the question: "What are the observed benefits of BWE on human health and well-being?" We searched for studies published in the last ten years in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), EMBASE, Virtual Health Library (BVS), PubMed, SciELO, and Cochrane Library databases in April 2024.

Inequities in Inpatient Pediatric Patient Safety Events by Category.

Objectives: Few studies have analyzed potential inequities in both pediatric patient safety events (PSEs) and adverse events (AEs) - PSEs leading to harm - nor in PSEs by event type. We sought to examine potential inequities in rates of pediatric PSEs overall, by severity, and by category based on race and ethnicity, insurance payor, and language as measured using voluntary incident reports (IRs).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of pediatric hospitalizations between January 19, 2012 through December 31, 2019 at a US urban, tertiary care children's hospital.

Developmental psychopathology turns 50: Applying core principles to longitudinal investigation of ADHD in girls and efforts to reduce stigma and discrimination.

The seminal contributions of Dante Cicchetti to the field/paradigm/metaparadigm of developmental psychopathology (DP) - and its continuing ascendance as a guiding force for multidisciplinary investigation of normative and atypical development - are legion. Our aim is to illustrate a number of DP's core principles in the context of (a) prospective longitudinal research on children (particularly girls) with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and (b) theoretical and empirical work dedicated to alleviating the stigma and discrimination toward those experiencing mental health, substance use, and neurodevelopmental challenges. We feature (i) the mutual interplay of perspectives on normative and non-normative development, (ii) reciprocal and transactional processes, and the constructs of and ; (iii) continuities and discontinuities in developmental processes and outcomes, with particular focus on ; (iv) the inseparability of heritable and environmental risk; (v) multiple levels of analysis, and (vi) the benefits of qualitative perspectives.

The Efficacy of a Multimodal Bedroom-Based 'Smart' Alarm System on Mitigating the Effects of Sleep Inertia.

Previous work has demonstrated the modest impact of environmental interventions that manipulate lighting, sound, or temperature on sleep inertia symptoms. The current study sought to expand on previous work and measure the impact of a multimodal intervention that collectively manipulated light, sound, and ambient temperature on sleep inertia. Participants slept in the lab for four nights and were awoken each morning by either a traditional alarm clock or the multimodal intervention.
