Population data for DXS6800, DXS101 and DXS8377 loci from Buenos Aires (Argentina).

The X-chromosomal short tandem repeats (X-STRs) DXS6800, DXS101 and DXS8377 were analysed in a population sample from Buenos Aires (Argentina) using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) multiplex approach with fluorescent detection. We present allele frequencies for these loci in a population comprising 113 women and 99 men. The Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) was tested in the female sample and no significant deviations were observed.

Long-term effect of norepinephrine on thyroglobulin gene expression in FRTL-5 cells.

Many types of evidence support a role of the sympathetic nervous system in the regulation of thyroid function, although there is no general consensus on the type of influence that catecholamines exert. Depending on the experimental approach, epinephrine and norepinephrine (NE) can stimulate, inhibit, or fail to act on thyroid function. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of NE on thyroglobulin (Tg) synthesis and gene expression in FRTL-5 cells.

Double-blind co-operative trial to compare trimethoprim-sulfalene and co-trimoxazole in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections.

Two fixed trimethoprim-sulfonamide combinations were compared in a clinical trial for their effectiveness and safety in the treatment of patients with acute lower respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchopenumonia, purulent tracheobronchitis, ect.). 46 in-patients were randomly allocated to Kelfiprim (trimethoprim 250 mg + sulfalene (sulfamethopyrazine) 200 mg) or to co-trimoxazole (trimethoprim 320 mg + sulfamethoxazole 1600 mg) and were treated for 1-2 weeks under double-blind conditions.
