Aim: This study was designed to investigate the response of the respiratory structures to orthognathic surgery in patients with Class III malocclusion, with a specific emphasis on the vertical placement of the hyoid bone. The correlations of these changes were also analysed, followed by further subgroup analyses based on preoperative conditions.

Materials And Methods: Dolphin software was used to obtain cephalometric landmarks, airway and hyoid bone measurements from pre- and postoperative CBCT scans of 31 patients.

Background: The facial landmark annotation of 3D facial images is crucial in clinical orthodontics and orthognathic surgeries for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. While manual landmarking has traditionally been the gold standard, it is labour-intensive and prone to variability.

Objective: This study presents a framework for automated landmark detection in 3D facial images within a clinical context, using convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and it assesses its accuracy in comparison to that of ground-truth data.

Objective: To determine if re-establishment of occlusal contact was achieved within 6 months after insertion of a fixed anterior bite plane in individuals with Class II division 2 incisor relationship, and to evaluate the occlusal and vertical skeletal changes and acceptance of the intra-oral scanner and bite plane.

Design: Single-centre two-arm parallel group randomised controlled trial with 1:1 allocation to intervention and control groups.

Setting: Dundee Dental Hospital and Research School, UK.

Article Synopsis
  • Congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) is a condition caused by Zika virus infection during pregnancy, leading to birth defects like small head size (microcephaly).
  • The study looked at 3D images of the heads of babies with CZS and compared them to babies without the infection to find differences in size and shape.
  • Researchers found that using a specific measurement called the head height to head circumference ratio (HH/HC) is more effective for diagnosing CZS than the usual method of just measuring head size.

Background: Forensic Odontology developed as a discipline in 1898 with the publication of its first textbook; however, 126 years later, a standardised core curriculum for formal training in Forensic Odontology has yet to be decided. This website scoping review aims to provide information on three main distinct categories (and 17 subcategories): Availability, Content, and Quality of Forensic Odontology education globally. The information on formal education programmes was gathered by conducting a web search using 'Google Search' in English, Arabic, Spanish, and French languages between June and July 2022.
