Encephalopathy at High Altitude: Hyponatremia or High Altitude Cerebral Edema?

Objective: Brain dysfunction at high altitudes can be caused by both high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) and hyponatremic encephalopathy. Differentiating them is important for proper treatment but can be difficult. We present a case series of 11 patients with hyponatremic encephalopathy, all initially misdiagnosed as HACE, and we discuss key signs and symptoms that will help clinicians differentiate the 2 pathologies.

- Eleven patients underwent SRS, with the results showing HD MLCs provided better conformity and allowed for lower doses to critical organs, while CK and GK had their own advantages in plan quality.
- The findings suggest that HD MLC linacs are the preferred choice for SRS due to their superior performance, though CK and GK also deliver significant improvements in various aspects.
As natural environments deteriorate, genetic improvements to agricultural animals will be required to ensure global food security. Improving livestock production by introducing asexual reproduction (AR) into mainstream animal husbandry can help meet the challenge, but its advantages must be accompanied by social, commercial, and governmental acceptance.
