In a changing environment, vacant niches can be filled either by adaptation of local taxa or range-expanding invading species. The relative tempo of these patterns is of key interest in the modern age of climate change. Aotearoa New Zealand has been a hotspot of biogeographic research for decades due to its long-term isolation and dramatic geological history.

Background: The primary objective of this study was to investigate the diagnostic characteristics of bone scintigraphy single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (BS-SPECT/CT) for diagnosing aseptic loosening after uncemented total knee arthroplasty (TKA), and to evaluate the following aspects: how to manage inconclusive results, the interobserver reliability, and the location of tracer uptake between symptomatic cases with and without aseptic loosening.

Methods: In this study, 180 patients who had uncemented TKA and persistent knee pain suspected of aseptic loosening were included. As part of routine medical care, BS-SPECT/CT was used, and its results were compared with the reference standard, which involved revision surgery for aseptic loosening or a 12-month follow-up without revision or imaging.

Thirty years ago, DNA sequences were obtained from an extinct Aotearoa New Zealand animal for the first time. Since then, ancient DNA research has provided many - often unexpected - insights into the origins of New Zealand's terrestrial and marine vertebrate fauna. Because recent human activities in New Zealand have caused the decline or extinction of many endemic plant, bird, reptile, and marine mammal species, ancient DNA has been instrumental in reconstructing their identities and origins.

Objectives: To investigate whether, apart from effects of patient- and disease-related factors, psychosocial factors have additional effects on disease activity; and which factors are most influential during the first year of treatment in early rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Method: The study assessed 15 month follow-up data from patients in tREACH, a randomized clinical trial comparing initial triple disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug therapy to methotrexate monotherapy, with glucocorticoid bridging in both groups. Patients were evaluated every 3 months and treated to target.
