Shaping Liquid Droplets on an Active Air-Ferrofluid Interface.

An air-liquid interface is important in many biological and industrial applications, where the manipulation of liquids on the air-liquid interface can have a significant impact. However, current manipulation techniques on the interface are mostly limited to transportation and trapping. Here, we report a magnetic liquid shaping method that can squeeze, rotate, and shape nonmagnetic liquids on an air-ferrofluid interface with programmable deformation.

Correlation of Waist to Calf Circumference Ratio and Carotid Intima-Media Thickness in Diabetes Mellitus.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a well-known risk factor for cardiovascular disease because of the accelerated process of atherosclerosis. Obesity is an established risk factor and has gained immense importance in recent studies as an important risk factor for clinical cardiovascular disease, yet the fundamental component stays unclear. Calf circumference is another form for lean mass and peripheral subcutaneous fat and is inversely associated with the occurrence of carotid plaques (CP).

A data platform to improve rabies prevention, Sri Lanka.

Problem: In Sri Lanka, rabies prevention initiatives are hindered by fragmented and delayed information-sharing that limits clinicians' ability to follow patients and impedes public health surveillance.

Approach: In a project led by the health ministry, we adapted existing technologies to create an electronic platform for rabies surveillance. Information is entered by trained clinical staff, and both aggregate and individual patient data are visualized in real time.

Feasibility of canine oral rabies vaccination in Sri Lanka--a preliminary report.

Objective: To test the feasibility of introducing oral rabies vaccine (vaccinia recombinant rabies glycoprotein) to improve domestic dog immunisation coverage in a selected area.

Design: A prospective field trial.

Setting: Panadura, an area relatively isolated by waterways, making it a suitable field laboratory.
