Open surgical repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm during the second trimester of pregnancy.

A 37-year-old obese woman, trigravida and secundiparous, at 17 weeks of gestation presented with acute abdominal pain. Doppler ultrasound examination showed an infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm measuring 61 mm in diameter and a computed tomography angiography outlined a fissured infrarenal aneurysm measuring 85 mm in diameter. To preserve the pregnancy, the obstetrician performed perioperative tocolysis.

Preoperative mortality risk evaluation in abdominal surgical emergencies: development and internal validation of the NDAR score from a national multicenter audit in Senegal.

Introduction: Abdominal surgical emergencies have a high mortality rate. Effective management primarily relies on the early identification of patients at high risk of postoperative complications. The objective of our study was to determine the prognostic factors associated with poor outcomes from abdominal surgical emergencies in Senegal and to establish a predictive score for mortality for preoperative risk evaluation (NDAR (New Death Assessment Risk) score).

Use and Acceptability of HIV Self-Testing Among First-Time Testers at Risk for HIV in Senegal.

HIV Self-Testing (HIVST) aims to increase HIV testing coverage and can facilitate reaching the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets. In Senegal, key populations bear a disproportionate burden of HIV and report limited uptake of HIV testing given pervasive stigma and criminalization. In these contexts, HIVST may represent a complementary approach to reach populations reporting barriers to engagement with existing and routine HIV testing services.

[Indications and results of surgical resection of bubbles arising from pulmonary emphysema].

Surgical resection of bubbles or bullectomy is the gold standard in the treatment of bubbles arising from pulmonary emphysema. It is usually indicated for patients with complicated bubbles or when they are the underlying cause of disabling dyspnea. This study aims to determine the indications for bullectomy and to evaluate surgical outcomes in our Department.
