Annotated checklist of chigger mites (Trombidiformes: Leeuwenhoekiidae, Trombiculidae and Walchiidae) in Sri Lanka.

Chigger mites (Leeuwenhoekiidae, Trombiculidae, and Walchiidae) are parasites of any terrestrial vertebrate. The present study updates the list of chigger mite (Trombiculidae, Leeuwenhoekiidae, and Walchiidae) species recorded from Sri Lanka along with taxonomic classification based on previous investigations since 1946 to date and our observations in western and southern parts of the country. This checklist listed 15 species in 9 genera within the three chigger families.

Two Cases of Congenital Chylethorax: A Successful Story of Medical Management.

Congenital chylothorax (CC) is one of the most common causes of pleural effusions in neonates. Associated ipsilateral pulmonary aplasia in CC results in neonatal respiratory distress. Here, we report 2 cases of CC who were managed in the Teaching Hospital Karapitiya, Sri Lanka, between 2017 and 2019.

Effectiveness of hypertonic saline nebulization in airway clearance in children with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis: A randomized control trial.

Introduction: Failure to expectorate mucus resulting in progressive airway damage is the hallmark of bronchiectasis. Therefore effective airway clearance techniques (ACT) is the key step in its management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of 3% hypertonic saline (HS) pre-medication in ACT in children with non cystic fibrosis (non-CF) bronchiectasis.

Malaria in Sri Lanka: Investigating causes of the recent elimination and making plans to prevent reintroduction.

Sri Lanka is a country that has long suffered from epidemics of malaria. In this historical context, it is remarkable that in 2016 the Indian Ocean island nation was able to officially celebrate the elimination of this parasitic disease of major public health importance. The most devastating outbreak recorded in Sri Lanka was during 1934-35, when close to 80,000 human deaths were reported.

Propofol versus Fentanyl for Sedation in Pediatric Bronchoscopy: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objective: To compare propofol and fentanyl to induce conscious sedation in children undergoing flexible bronchoscopy.

Study Design: Randomized controlled trial.

Setting: Pediatric Pulmonology division at a tertiary care center in Delhi, India.
