Long-lived central memory γδ T cells confer protection against murine cytomegalovirus reinfection.

The involvement of γδ TCR-bearing lymphocytes in immunological memory has gained increasing interest due to their functional duality between adaptive and innate immunity. γδ T effector memory (TEM) and central memory (TCM) subsets have been identified, but their respective roles in memory responses are poorly understood. In the present study, we used subsequent mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV) infections of αβ T cell deficient mice in order to analyze the memory potential of γδ T cells.

Enzymatically-derived oligo-carrageenans interact with α-Gal antibodies and Galectin-3.

Carrageenans are linear sulfated galactans synthesized in the Gigartinales, Rhodophyceae species with a varied range of biological properties that are of value to the pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors. It is unknown how the fine structure of carrageenans dictates their capacity to affect molecular and cellular responses important to wound healing, or the ability to mitigate oxidative, hemostatic and inflammatory processes. Here we use specific endo-carrageenases, from the marine bacterium Zobellia galactanivorans, to produce enzymatically defined neo-series oligosaccharides from carrageenans with 3,6-anhydro-D-galactose on the non-reducing end.

Extent of thyroidectomy: When should hemithyroidectomy be performed? Recommendations from the Francophone Association for Endocrine Surgery, the French Society of Endocrinology and the French Society of Nuclear Medicine.

These recommendations, drawn from current data in the medical literature, incorporate the risks of hemithyroidectomy (HT) and total thyroidectomy (TT) and clarify the place of these two procedures in clinical settings. Discussions leading to a consensus were then assessed by the Francophone Association for Endocrine Surgery (Association francophone de chirurgie endocrinienne [AFCE]), along with the French Society of Endocrinology (Société française d'endocrinologie [SFE]), and the French Society of Nuclear Medicine (Société française de médecine nucléaire [SFMN]). The complication rate was twice as high after TT compared to HT.

Integrating blue: How do we make nationally determined contributions work for both blue carbon and local coastal communities?

Blue Carbon Ecosystems (BCEs) help mitigate and adapt to climate change but their integration into policy, such as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), remains underdeveloped. Most BCE conservation requires community engagement, hence community-scale projects must be nested within the implementation of NDCs without compromising livelihoods or social justice. Thirty-three experts, drawn from academia, project development and policy, each developed ten key questions for consideration on how to achieve this.

Alterations of digestive motility after bariatric surgery.

Bariatric surgery can induce changes in digestive motility that are de novo or secondary to an improvement or aggravation of previous disorders due to obesity. Alterations of digestive motility are frequently part of the mechanism of action and a result of surgery. They are not rare and they are not always associated with an increase in weight loss but can lead to the negative consequences on quality of life, which are more or less reversible as a real surgical complication.
